A&D Forensics, Africa’s leading blockchain and cryptocurrency investigation firm, has made history as the first African company to join the Crypto Market Integrity Coalition (CMIC), a prestigious global alliance that includes renowned industry giants such as Chainalysis, Coinbase, Blockchain Intelligence Group (BIG), Circle, and Solidus Labs. This significant milestone underscores A&D Forensics’ commitment to enhancing the integrity and security of the crypto and blockchain space, both within Africa and globally.

About the Crypto Market Integrity Coalition (CMIC)

Launched by Solidus Labs, CMIC brings together key stakeholders in the digital asset industry to promote market integrity, transparency, and trust. It focuses on setting global standards for compliance and security in the rapidly evolving crypto ecosystem, ensuring that industry players uphold ethical practices while preventing fraud, market manipulation, and market abuse. CMIC members promote market integrity through various task forces, including the Regulation and Policy Task Force, the Marketing Task Force, the Consumer Protection Task Force, and others.

Since its establishment in February 2022, CMIC has achieved several milestones, including growing its membership, adopting a collaborative Code of Conduct, launching educational sessions through CMIC Academy, facilitating roundtable discussions with regulators, creating a Resource Library, hosting a Global Policy Forum, and advancing industry standards across eight workstreams.

A&D Forensics Onboarding Event into CMIC

A&D Forensics was officially onboarded into CMIC on October 3, 2024. The virtual inauguration ceremony was attended by the A&D Forensics team from across Africa, including representatives from Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.

During the onboarding call, our Blockchain Forensics Specialist, Chioma Onyekelu, introduced the entire A&D Forensics team, followed by onboarding messages and orientation by Amina and Nathan. Following the introductions, the CMIC team outlined the different workstreams, encouraging A&D Forensics to participate. This year, CMIC launched eight workstreams focused on promoting industry standards and market integrity in the digital asset space. The topics include Digital Assets Market Liquidity Issues, US Legislation and Competitiveness, Countering Fraud, Consumer Redress, AML Modernization and DeFi, Staking Policy, Market Data Structure, and Shared Market Surveillance.

A Milestone for Africa’s Crypto Ecosystem

Adedeji Owonibi, Senior Partner at A&D Forensics, expressed his excitement during the onboarding event, stating: “Becoming the first African firm to join CMIC is not just a proud moment for A&D Forensics, but also for Africa’s entire crypto ecosystem. It reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in the digital asset space and emphasizes Africa’s growing role in the global cryptocurrency market.”

Following the onboarding, A&D Forensics participated in its first task force meeting, focused on regulation and policy. During the meeting, the CMIC team provided detailed information on each task force’s activities and discussed strategies to foster collaboration across jurisdictions, with A&D Forensics being the only member from Africa.
