In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, Nigeria’s youth are faced with immense opportunities and challenges. With a large and growing population of young people, the country has the potential to harness this demographic dividend to drive economic growth and innovation. But many Nigerian youths lack the skills and training needed to compete in the modern workforce, making it essential to provide them with empowerment opportunities that can enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities.
It is against this backdrop that the OyoKopa Business and Career Conference has emerged as a beacon of hope for many young Nigerians. Organized in partnership with the Nigerian Youth Corp Service (NYSC), the conference has been making waves since its inception, providing training, mentorship, networking, and funding opportunities to prepare attendees for success in the modern workforce.
OyoKopa Business and Career Conference: A Movement for Youth Empowerment
According to John Lee, Convener and Founder of JT Connect, “OyoKopa has expanded beyond a single event, evolving into a movement that empowers young professionals across Nigeria and beyond.”
“I firmly believe that education and community are the pillars upon which true progress in Web3 is built. Without a strong foundation of knowledge and a collaborative ecosystem, the transformative potential of this technology will remain untapped.”
The conference has indeed come a long way, with its inaugural edition in 2023 being a huge success. The 2023 edition brought together top industry leaders, government officials, and experts who shared insights and career opportunities with Corps Members. Over 1,000 Corps Members received free training in data analysis, coding, web development, and product management, while three Corps Members’ businesses were awarded ₦1 million in grants through a pitch competition.
Notably, the first edition surpassed expectations with over 6,000 audience members in attendance in Ibadan. The event was supported by over 30 brands and corporate sponsors, including Termii, Noones, Seven-Up Bottling Company, and Traddify. The conference also received extensive media coverage from prominent outlets such as BBC, NTA, AIT, BCOS, 32 FM, Naija FM, and yours truly, CAB, boosting its visibility.
As John Lee noted, “The high level of participation confirmed the demand for career and business empowerment programs among young professionals.” The conference has continued to grow, with the 2024 edition hosting various meetups across Nigeria and partnering with local and international brands to educate young minds on career development, business, Web3, blockchain, and entrepreneurship.
The 2025 edition, rebranded as OyoKopa 2.0 Conference, promises to be bigger and better. With over 10,000 attendees expected, the conference will feature expanded workshops, international partners, and increased funding opportunities. John Lee emphasized that “OyoKopa 2.0 Conference will provide direct engagement with industry leaders & recruiters, advanced Web3, digital skills & entrepreneurship training, networking & investment opportunities, and business pitch competition with funding opportunities.”
